Overview of Managing Premises in RxExpress

Brian Naujoks -

RxExpress provides several options for managing premises (aka farms, growers, locations, etc.). Identifying premises is necessary on VFDs to identify the location of animals (when different than the client location).

Premises can also be used on prescriptions (Rx) to identify animals when they are not individually marked (e.g. chickens, turkeys, etc.). This article focuses on VFDs, but the same methods apply to prescriptions as well.

There are two primary methods to manage premises in RxExpress. This article will introduce both methods and provide you with an idea of which may work best for you. You can then click the link for each method to view more information about how to do it.

Build an Address Book in Memorize

The first method involves just entering premise information manually into the Premise fields at the bottom of the Client/Complex step. Each premise you create will then be available for you to access in Memorize for any future VFDs you write that will include that premise.

Note: If you have all of your farm information for all of your clients in a spreadsheet, we can populate your Memorize for you. This will allow all users on your account to have access to this information in Memorize. Please bear in mind that we need all of your data up front and cannot upload your data piecemeal.

If you are interested in looking into this option, please contact us at: support@newplanettek.com.

This method is best for you if:

  • Most of your clients have a small number of premises.
  • You write VFDs for the same clients/premises regularly.
  • The premises for your clients change for each VFD.

This method may not be best for you if:

  • Most of your clients have a large number of premises.

Here is an article that will show you how to get started with this method: Managing Premises with Memorize

Manage Premises with CSV Files

A CSV file is a simplified spreadsheet that you can manipulate in Excel, Google Sheets, or another spreadsheet application. They allow you to manage and upload large amounts of data very easily.

Managing premises with a CSV file involves downloading the template CSV file from RxExpress and populating it with the farm data for a specific client. Then, when you are creating your VFD for that client, you simply upload that CSV file with all the farm data right into that VFD. RxExpress will automatically grab the data in the file and apply it to your VFD.

Further, once you've done this once, that same farm list will populate automatically on your future VFDs any time you select that same client from Memorize.

This method is best for you if:

  • Most of your clients have a large number of premises.
  • You write VFDs for these clients regularly.

This method may not be best for you if:

  • Most of your clients have small numbers of premises.
  • The premises for your clients change with each VFD.

Use Both Methods

RxExpress is all about flexibility. If both of these methods sounds good to you, feel free to use a combination of them based on your needs. For example, if you have a bunch of smaller clients, you can enter their premise information manually to build up your Memorize for those clients. Then you can use CSV files to manage the premises of your larger clients.
